Q: What is Test and Tag?
A: Test and Tag is a process of visually inspecting electrical items for any damage, once inspected they are connected to the state of the art calibrated tester (PAT Machine) and then the item is electrically tested for safety. When this test has been completed a tag is put onto the item to show that is now safe to use.
Q: Do I have to do testing and tagging in a business?
A: Simple answer is yes. Victorian OH&S Act (Section 21) States you must have and maintain a safe work environment. How do you know if something is safe if you don’t test it?
Q: Do I have to test everything?
A: If it plugs into a power point then the general rule is yes.
Q: Is it expensive?
A: No. The industry standard is $5.00 per tag

Q: How often do I need to get items tested
A: Generally, in an Office it is every 12 months, Factory is 6 monthly and out in the field i.e. construction sites are every 3 months. There are exceptions to these rules
